End of Summer Giveaway!
Time for a giveaway! :-) I've been wanting to share this wonderful book with you all and have been gathering together some things for a giveaway, and so there you have it. :-) Voila! An "End of Summer Giveaway." :-)
They Call Me Mother Graham is one of the most encouraging reads for Moms that I have found . . . I've read this book, written by Billy Graham's mother Morrow in the past and picked it up again recently. Oh, how the Lord spoke to me through it!
Morrow provides little details of how she and her husband came to a living faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and what their family life was like in the years when Billy Graham was young. Her words were so helpful to me as a Mom of young children--her determination to put the Lord first and to teach the Bible to her children from when they were very young spoke to my heart as well as her gentle, consistent discipline and admonishing of her children toward the Lord from when they were tiny.
She was also a woman of great faith and persistent prayer; this was impressed upon me as well. Morrow pleaded before the throne of grace for her children, and I believe that part of the fruit of her prayers was Billy Graham's ministry and life's work.
Every Mom should read this book; truly.
Now books are wonderful and necessary for life, ;-) but so is chocolate and coffee ;-) and so I have also included the latter in this giveaway. I found this chocolate bar in a local store in my (new) home state (if I had still been living in Rhode Island, you would have gotten a clamcake ;-))--it looked exceedingly delicious and miraculously, I have not sampled it yet ;-)--and so I included it in this giveaway.
This coffee piqued my interest (especially the fact that it may be prepared hot or iced (versatility! ;-)). Always important in a good coffee drink. :-)
There is also a little "coffee" basket included in the giveaway, just to reinforce the merits of that delightful drink one more time.
I hope that you enjoy this giveaway; please feel free to share about it with others and to enter every day with the "free entries" option.
I pray that each of you is having a blessed, restful summer and are refreshed to enter into the coming Autumn with joy. The Lord bless you, each one.

~A Lilias Trotter Giveaway~
One of the most precious gifts that my Mom gave to me growing up was a love and a nurturing of my love for missionary and Christian biographies. Next to the Word of God, the Lord has used His stories of men and women who gave up their "earthly all" to take up their cross and to follow Him in a tremendous way in my life. Filling my mind with accounts of the lives of Oswald Chambers, John Paton, Amy Carmichael, Adoniram Judson, James Fraser, William Tyndale, and many others has fostered in me a yearning to imitate these men and women in a very small way. I am so grateful for the gift of their lives and testimonies! I (truthfully) could never "get into" theological tomes--although I tried to read them! But missionary stories and stories of Christians who walked closely with the Lord--I ate them up and the Lord gave me an insatiable hunger to read about His servants. I'm thankful for this because it taught me by example that one really could follow the Lord wholeheartedly--that through the power of the Holy Spirit, this kind of life of surrender is possible. No one does it perfectly--but each one has the capacity through His power working in and through us to pursue an obedient, surrendered life and to make the most of the time that is given to us. Praise God that He does the work through us as we surrender to Him . . . nothing is impossible for Him.
Many of you know about my love for the missionary Lilias Trotter and her writings and art. I have wanted to run this giveaway for a while now, in the hopes that it might introduce more of you to this wonderful servant of our Lord and Savior! My prayer is that more people will read her writings and in turn, recommend them to others; may the Lord be glorified through her precious example of faith and obedience.
Included in this giveaway are:
~Lilias Trotter's biography, written by Miriam Huffman Rockness. This wonderful biography details Lilias's life and ministry in a detailed and engaging way. It really challenged and encouraged me.
The recent documentary made about Lilias Trotter's life entitled Many Beautiful Things. I enjoyed this documentary very much--although it doesn't go into as much detail as the biography, it whets one's appetite to learn more about this obedient servant of God.
~Two beautiful bookmarks made by my precious friend Stephanie. Stephanie blogs over at The Enchanting Rose and if you have never visited her blog, you are missing out on a real treat for the soul! She shares recipes, book reviews, sewing projects, hymn spotlights, as well as other lovely and encouraging topics. I was so blessed by Stephanie's offering these bookmarks for the giveaway; I love the way that she beautifully designed them with flowers and delicate lace. They are so pretty and feminine and perfect for using in the biography of Lilias Trotter or any other book that you are reading! Stephanie also has a wonderful Etsy shop, Rose Petal Blessings, that she continually adds beautiful items to--and she offers free shipping as well! If you have never visited her store, I would encourage you to; you will love it!
Please enter the giveaway below and share about it with friends! I know that Lilias' Trotter's testimony will bless your life richly.

A Love To Come Home To: Blog Tour and Giveaway!
I am so excited to announce the release of the third book in Alicia G. Ruggieri's
A Time of Grace Trilogy:
A Love To Come Home To
July 22, 2016 in softcover and on Kindle
A Love To Come Home To
July 22, 2016 in softcover and on Kindle
Hardened Ben Picoletti thought he’d turned his back
on Depression-era Rhode Island years ago. Nothing remains there for him, except
for haunting memories of an abusive childhood. Yet when a criminal accusation
shatters his ambitions, Ben has nowhere to flee but back to his stepfather’s
home.
There, he finds that redemption yet waits for him…
but the sacrifice required to attain it may exceed the limits of his family’s hearts.
Meanwhile, his musical sister Grace continues her
studies in New York. She longs to hear a word of affection from her high-school
beau… yet only Paulie’s silence greets her. Grace must decide whether she wants
to live in the past or move into an unknown future with unexpected love.
Lyrical and sensitive to the aching heart, A Love to Come Home To affirms that God
delights in being a stronghold in times of trouble; that He renews His mercy
every morning; and that He will work every bitter thing together for the good
of His
children.
children.
My Review of A Love To Come Home To:
This book . . . so, so beautiful. It just captivated me. It
brought me back in time, it brought me to tears, it brought me to the cross.
The first two books led up to this one so perfectly, and A Love To Come Home To
was such a fragrant offering to complete the trilogy.
I love Alicia’s writing. I love her style which is not
overtly feminine or frilly, but is also not wooden or stiff. I love the way
that she develops her characters, getting inside their mind for a glimpse of
what and why they are thinking and doing what they think and do—it adds a depth
and a realness to her writing.
I love the character of Ben. I love the way that one can
relate to his struggles and fears and sorrows. I love his sensitivity that shyly
emerges throughout the story and then blossoms into spiritual life at the end
of the book. His character repels the reader and then draws them in at the same
time. And Alicia develops his story so
well throughout the book and makes him such a believable character—rough around
the edges, but loveable at the same time!
Grace’s story and her romance with Paulie is also
beautifully played out throughout this book. The theme of surrender is one
which I love and Alicia captures that wonderfully, both in Paulie’s and Grace’s
actions and lives. I won’t give the ending away, but it is so, so well done!
Anyone looking for a good romance with substance won’t be disappointed in this
one!
The conclusion took my breath away and brought me to tears.
I won’t give it away here, but as one who has always loved symbolism in
stories, the ending was deeply satisfying for me. The way that Alicia tied
everything together, using a symbol from the first book, and bringing
restoration symbolically and physically to what had been lost through Ben’s
father’s sin was really brilliant.
This is a book that the reader will not want to put down. It
is deeply spiritual without being preachy. It is gritty and Alicia is not
afraid to delve into difficult and ugly situations, but she handles it with
thoughtful tact and grace—something that I find as a rarity in modern
literature. Her end motive is always healing
and restoration, not “grittiness” for the sake of the “shock” value.
I love the Spirit-filled sense that the book gives me, that
the author was relying on the Holy Spirit as she wrote, and the Word of God
comes through richly because of this, I think.
I highly recommend this book, and the two before it, read in
order. What a blessing these books have
been to me! I pray that the Lord may continue to use Alicia’s writing to show
powerfully the grace and redemption of our Lord Jesus Christ. Well done!

Monthly Book Giveaway~ The Heavenly Man~The Remarkable, True Story of Chinese Christian Brother Yun
“There was once a fiddler who played so beautifully that everybody danced. A deaf man who could not hear the music considered them all insane. Those who are with Jesus in suffering hear this music to which other men are deaf. They dance and do not care if they are considered insane.”
― Richard Wurmbrand
― Richard Wurmbrand
“It is not great men who change the world, but weak men in the hands of a great God.”
― Brother Yun
― Brother Yun
For more information about Monthly Book Giveaways, click HERE.
One cannot adequately describe the sufferings that the underground Chinese church has endured for the sake of Jesus Christ, nor completely fathom the spiritual life that has sprung from that suffering. Only when we embrace the promises of God through the sharp talons of suffering for His sake, can we know the comfort and joy that follows.
The Heavenly Man is a testimony of that kind of suffering and of that kind of joy--the joy that sees Jesus Christ and endures hardship and deprivation for the sake of the Gospel. The joy that embraces beauty from ashes and the oil of joy from mourning. The joy that looks beyond what is seen to the unseen. Brother Yun's testimony should be read by every Christian who desires to experience a closer, more intimate walk with the Lord Jesus Christ--because this kind of intimacy is only gained through being identified with our Lord through suffering for His sake.
For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake . . .
Philippians 1:29 NKJV
Brief description of The Heavenly Man from CBD (Christian Book Distributors):
You've seen the headlines---government crackdowns on Chinese house churches; mass arrests and human rights violations. . . . Learn how God took a young half-starved boy from Henan Province and enabled him to stand strong on the front lines for Jesus, braving horrific opposition and impossible odds. Life-changing!
To enter the giveaway for a paperback copy of this book, written by Paul Hattaway, please comment below on why you would like to read this book or about one of your favorite examples of a follower of Christ who has endured persecution. A winner will be randomly drawn from the entrants' names one week from today and announced on the blog.
Other books on this topic that I recommend:

Monthly Book Giveaway-- Abandoned to God: The Biography of Oswald Chambers
For more information about Monthly Book Giveaways click HERE.
I am beyond excited to announce this month's book giveaway. Oswald Chambers is a man whose writing and experience have helped to shape so many in their Christian walk and to encourage surrender to the Lord in every area of life. Chamber's devotional, My Utmost for His Highest, has been widely read and has touched the hearts and challenged the souls of countless believers.
I "met" Oswald Chambers when I was about 16 years old. That was the time when the Lord more deeply awakened my heart to spiritual things -- to wanting a very close relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, even though I had asked Him into my heart as a young child.
I wanted to know the meaning of surrender -- what it meant to surrender everything to the Lord, to live a life consecrated to Him.
So I asked my mom, who herself possessed a deep relationship with Jesus Christ, how to have a more intimate connection with the Savior.
She gave me a book -- a worn, dog-eared book -- her own copy of My Utmost for his Highest-Chamber's devotional. I treasure it still. I cannot begin to describe the impact that this book has had upon my life. I am forever indebted to my mom for that precious gift and counsel to read Chamber's words. And I am forever grateful to the Lord for leading me to Himself through this man's writings.
I later read Chamber's biography, written by David McCasland. This is a tremendous book, providing the reader with a rich look into the life of a man given completely into the hands of His almighty Father. I know that it will be a blessing to any who read it. I could not help it -- I am also giving away a pocket copy of Chamber's devotional, (compiled by his wife, Biddy) My Utmost for His Highest, as a companion to Chamber's biography. The Lord has used this book so mightily in my own life, and it is a rich treasure of insight and encouragement towards a deeper walk with the Lord Jesus.
The following is taken from the back of Chamber's biography, Abandoned to God:
"Oswald Chambers was a man for all time. His mind was the mind of Christ and so his words are compelling because they reflect the thoughts of our Savior. I am not the first to say that no book outside the Bible has influenced me as much as My Utmost for His Highest. In David McCasland's book we have, at last, the story of this remarkable man's life and how, having honored God, God is now honoring him with the only fame that really matters." Cal Thomas, syndicated columnist
"Whoever has read or heard about My Utmost for His Highest must buy and read this book from cover to cover. Your tears will flow, your heart will be moved, the Holy Spirit will speak a word of peace, and your Christian life will never be the same." Harold Lindsell, Editor Emeritus, Christianity Today
"So many millions of us have read his words, been deepened by his prayers, been brought before God by his writing. And now we get to know him. I had no idea what a magnificent life was present behind these marvelous words. Oswald Chambers' writing is validated in detail after detail by his life." Eugene H. Peterson, James M. Houston Professor of Spiritual Theology, Regent College
"If you are one of those who know and love Oswald Chambers' famous book of devotional readings, My Utmost for His Highest--edited and published by his faithful widow, "Biddy" in the late 1920s--you will want to become intimately acquainted with this giant among Christian devotional writers. This new biography offers you that opportunity." D. James Kennedy, Senior Minister, Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church
"Oswald Chambers: Abandoned to God is a magnificent description of how one man sought God and lived out that relationship in the realities of life. It will stimulate you heart to follow God more fully. For years I have used Oswald Chambers' My Utmost for His Highest. In this biography I see where that depth of input was born and developed." Jerry E. White, General Director, The Navigators
"My Utmost for His Highest has become an essential part of the process of maturity for countless Christians over many decades, but we have know little about this man of God whose life has meant so much to so many. I welcome David McCasland's contribution, which goes a long way toward showing everyone how contemporary Chambers' writing really are." James Engel, Distinguished Professor of Marketing, Research, and Strategy, Eastern College
And now, for the giveaway! :-) Enter below to win a copy of BOTH My Utmost for His Highest (Chambers's devotional) AND Abandoned to God (McCasland's biography):
