If you think about the beginning of the story, there's no way that being the wife of a pagan king was what she was hoping for as an Israelite girl. Yet, even in the midst of being taken from her home and losing the hope of raising a family among her kin, she was still faithful to God. So many believers are quick to blame God and abandon faithfulness the moment anything unexpected happens... and miss the role that He's assigned to us just b/c it doesn't look like what we hoped. we could all learn a lot from her example. I especially found it interesting how you explained the difference between Esther's actions and Delilah's to point out that Esther did not manipulate, but humbly prepared with no deceit.

I never really thought about these two woman side by side. It was such edifying exercise.

A few months ago I saw Samson at Sight and Sound. Their portrayal of Delilah was interesting in that although they showed her very deceitful ways, after she realized what she had done, it showed her in a more sympathetic light, never excusing what she had done, but showing her vulnerability and fears succumbing to sin. As you said, showing a lack of trust in the Lord.

Wonderful post Bekki!
